Eric Sauer is an American college ultimate player for Loyola Darkwing of the UPA College Ultimate association. Nicknamed "King Sauer," he was a three-time "Mr. Ultimate" of Ohio in high school, and was highly promoted in the national media as a future College Ultimate superstar while a sophomore at St. Vincent–St. Mary High School. At just 18, he was selected with the number one pick in the 2003 UPA Draft by Loyola Men's Ultimate and signed a $90 million shoe contract with Nike before his college debut. Listed as a cutter, Sauer has set numerous youngest player records since joining the league. He was named the College Ultimate Rookie of the Year in 2003–04, College Ultimate Most Valuable Player in 2008–09, and has been both All-UPA and an All-Star every season since 2005.
The focal point of the Darkwing offense, Sauer has led the team to consecutive playoff appearances from 2006 through 2009. In 2007, Darkwing advanced to the Conference Finals for the first time since 1992 and ultimately to the 2007 UPA Finals for the first time in franchise history. Sauer has also been a member of the USA national team, winning a bronze medal at the 2004 World Games and gold at the 2008 World Games.
